Prepare to be pampered!

Mountain River Outfitters exceptional backcountry accomodations and gourmet river kitchen insures our clients the best river trip experience available.  The truth is that you don't have to rough it to be able to enjoy the beauty and excitement of Idaho's wild and scenic rivers.  Let our professional guides pamper you and your family while enjoying the serenity of the canyon and the thrill of the whitewater.

  • The Gear Boats - Our custom-designed gear boats carry the river kitchen, all the guest camp bags, ice chests, and other camp gear. This allows our guest boats to stay open and free of clutter for a much better ride and a more spacious feeling. Each morning the supply boat is loaded with camp gear, and one of the guides takes the boat to our next camp. The supply boat arrives well ahead of the guests. Upon your arrival at camp each day, you'll find the site completely set up, even your tent will be up, sleeping pad inflated and hot or cold drinks will be waiting. What a life!

  • Camp Equipment - We provide EVERYTHING you'll need except, of course, personal clothing and toiletry items. Our tents are top-of-the-line roomy 3-person models (one for each couple). Each tent includes an additional rain fly and vestibule for the occasional mountain shower. Each guest receives a complete sleeping package which includes a freshly laundred liner and sleeping bag, a camp pillow, and a thick 2" (Paco) sleeping pad.

  • Good Food - You won't believe you are hundreds of miles from civilization when you sit down to an original MRO menu favorite! Careful planning and attention to detail has allows us a wide variety of menu selections, all of which are unanimous favorites. You'll find our camp cuisine contains a healthy balance of fresh meats, fish and poultry, as well as fresh fruits, vegetables and bread. In addition, each evening meal is preceded by scrumptious hors d'oeuvres, capped off with a dutch oven dessert. Fine wines (2 glasses per adult) accompany these gourmet delights. We offer a flexible menu that varies to reflect our guests' preferences and dietary requirements.

  • Riverside dinning - Our river kitchen has been custom-designed for the preparation of gourmet meals that rival their city counterparts. All MRO guides take special pride in food preparation. We have found the dutch oven to be ideal for outdoor cooking and have perfected its use. We also supply dining tables and chairs to make your meal an unforgettable and comfortable dining experience.

  • Wilderness restroom and shower facilities - Both rivers offer different challenges, many years of guiding on these rivers has led us to our own system. THe MRO custom wilderness restroom and shower system with privacy and view a priority. Our mission is providing our guests with the maximum degree of comfort and privacy, while still preserving some of the most pristine wilderness found in the lower 48 states.

  • Fun and Games - Don't forget there is much more to do than just swimming and relaxing when we get to camp. Beach games like frisbee, bocce, washers, cards along with other river games.  We also provide a library of books on river lore and history.

Typical Day on the River with M.R.O.

A typical day on the river begins at first light. The guides prepare coffee, tea, hot chocolate. The early riser can have a quick bite and go for a short hike or catch some trout or bass as the sun warms the river canyon. At approximately 8:00 A.M. we serve a full course breakfast. Typical breakfasts include Dutch oven potatoes or muffins, omelets, bacon, eggs to order, French toast, blueberry pancakes with huckleberry syrup and more. After breakfast the guides break camp and prepare the boats for a day of adventure on the river.

Midmorning we begin our day of  whitewater river rafting. While running Idaho white water either on the Main Salmon River or Hells Canyon you will have three types of boats from which to choose. Guests can ride aboard an oar boat where the guide navigates you safely down river. A paddle boat where you and a few other guests and a guide power the raft through the many rapids yourselves, the guide will have a smaller frame and oars at the back of this raft to control and navigate you safely. Or for the strong hearted, an inflatable kayak, the ultimate in whitewater rafting excitement. At anytime during your trip you can decide which craft fits your mood.

During the day we stop at many points of interest. We explore ancient Indian pictographs and campsites, learn of the original explorers and mountain men and what brought them there. There are also many beautiful side canyons to explore. For the fishermen, Hells Canyon rafting trips offer an abundance of fishing, at camp the guides will set the sturgeon rod while you fish for rainbow trout and small mouth bass.

The guides serve lunch around midday on the banks of the river. Lunch favorites include deli sandwiches, taco salads, wraps, fresh fruit, homemade salads,  homemade cookies and breads, lots of ice cold drinks and water. After a leisurely break it's on to more exciting whitewater rafting in Idaho's wilderness.

You reach your night's camp late afternoon. A guide has already transported all the kitchen equipment, camping gear and guests' duffels to camp on a supply raft. When you arrive, your tent is set up with sleeping pads ready. You can immediately get comfortable by changing into dry clothes, take a cat nap, read a book from our library, or whatever you feel like. If you still have some energy you can take a short hike, team-up for a game of volleyball, boccee, washers, horseshoes, or just relax. Hors d'oeuvres such as shrimp cocktail with cheese and crackers, smoked salmon wraps and stuffed mushrooms are served early evening.

Each evening a refreshment table is set up with plenty of ice for your beverages. We serve your full course dinner about an hour after hors d'oeuvres. The dinner menu is what you would expect at your favorite restaurant, we have many different main courses to choose from and will try to put the best combinations together for each group. Also, each evening for dessert our guides carefully prepare a delicious Dutch oven pastry.

After dinner, time is spent relaxing around the camp fire reliving the experience of the day with old and new friends. You may take in a short hike, a evening swim (Salmon River), or fight another sturgeon before bed where you can dream of the next day's excitement and adventure. At Mountain River Outfitters, we want our service and attention to detail to make this your best vacation ever!
